Created by Cameron Carpenter. With Mackenzie Rayne, Devon Werkheiser, Abigail Arnold-Ochs, Terra Dray. ROUGH DRAFT follows Becca, an aspiring writer feeling alienated by her friend group for reasons she can't fully articulate. From Tolerable Studios (3 writer-producers of the Simpsons), and Rough Draft Studios, comes an original comedy based on your favorite Clash characters! (This is Professor Julian Boyd's reconstruction of Thomas Jefferson's 'original Rough draught' of the Declaration of Independence before it was revised by the other members of the Committee of Five and by Congress. From: The Papers of Thomas Jefferson. Rough Draft is designed to look like unfinished lettering-it appears that the outlines need to be cleaned up and it's not filled in completely. Despite its roughness, it has some of the elegance of a technicaldrawing. Suggested in part by 'Layout Gothic' in Dan X. Solo's 100 Grunge Alphabets from Dover, and by Greg Smith. Major Assingment 1 Rough Draft 1 Major Assignment 1 was very hard for me at first. I did not know how to put my thoughts together on paper that would make sense for the reader to understand. I do not have my reflection down on this draft but I hope you enjoy it.

What Is Beauty If You Can’t Feel It?

I am a self-taught makeup artist. I wear makeup solely for the purpose of self confidence, to look good and feel good about myself. Beauty is what pleases the aesthetic senses, but true beauty isn’t based on looks it’s beyond all of the cosmetology, the designer and so on. They say that “beauty is within the eye of the beholder” but I think so otherwise. [THESIS] Beauty has affected this society so much that confidence in the real you is beautiful, the life experiences, but most importantly, it’s the way it makes you feel. [THESIS]

In this society it is common that most girls are insecure about themselves. Either about the way they look, or the shape of their bodies. In the poem “Phenomenal Woman” by, Maya Angelou she states “It’s in the arch of my back, the sun in my smile, the ride of my breasts, the grace of my style, I’m a woman, phenomenally,” is a truly inspiring quote. It’s obvious through the text she carries herself confidently and with grace. Nowadays, too many young women feel insecure about themselves, but just being yourself, with what you have and everything that you are is truly beautiful. This type of self love is most inspiring and refreshing in this day and age. Although, Sydney Unciano states that “In contrast to this idea however, Maya Angelou demonstrates that a woman is beautiful because of the way she carries herself, the confidence she exudes, the grace she exhibits, her charisma, and her self acceptance that establishes her respect from other people” which I completely support her statement because it is important to carry yourself as a respectful woman to gain respect from others. I used to work for a store called Aerie, the lingerie brand of American Eagle. The store promotes an “#aerieREAL” campaign which reminds every girl and women that they are beautiful no matter what size they are. “I always appreciate beauty being looked and admired in all shapes and sizes” (Marler). They promote all of their models with no makeup, no touch ups because it is the real you and that’s what’s truly beautiful. Nowadays girls feel too intimidated to shop at Victoria’s Secret because of the models, they’re all skinny and makeup. Whereas, Aerie real is trying to promote that the real you is beautiful. The #aerieREAL campaign uses quotes such as “the girl in this photo has not been retouched the real you is sexy. #aerieREAL”, “Time to think real. Time to get real. No supermodels. No retouching. Because… The real you is sexy. #aerieREAL” and my favorite one of all, “Dear Aerie Girls, We think it’s time for a change. We think it’s time to GET REAL and THINK REAL. We want every girl to feel good about who they are and what they look like, inside and out. This means NO MORE RETOUCHING OUR GIRLS AND NO MORE SUPERMODELS. Why? Because there is no reason to retouch beauty. We think THE REAL YOU IS SEXY. xoxo, aerie” The #aerieREAL campaign is truly inspiring for ladies to carry through with confidence and self love, that’s what’s true beauty is all about.

It’s a life of adventures, and new experiences that makes life, beautiful. What does it mean to live a beautiful life? Many people might travel the world to see a life outside of their boundaries. To visit the grand canyon, visit art museums in France, to walk the great wall of china, climb Mount Everest. Is there really something comn to all of these experiences of beauty? In the TED Talk “A Darwinian Theory of Beauty” by, Denis Dutton, he states that “People agree that paintings or movies or music are beautiful because their cultures determine a uniformity of aesthetic taste.” I can’t help but agree because people around the world just find different music, visual arts, performance and physical attributes to be beautiful. Itis on the basis that many people believe that beauty is a label that we attach to different sorts of experiences based on a combination of cultural and personal preferences.

Beauty can be many things, confidence, culture, life experiences, but mostly, it is the way that it makes you feel. In the TED Talk video “How Beauty Feels” by, Richard Seymour he states that “This is the last act on earth of a little girl called Heidi, five years old, before she died of cancer to the spine. It’s the last thing she did, the last physical act. Look at that picture. Look at the innocence. Look at the beauty in it. Is it beautiful now?” this by far was the best TED Talk, it really hit me to the core when he said this. So therefore I agree with Seymour’s philosophy of beauty. It’s the feelings in precious moments. How would you feel after completing a goal you’ve worked so tirelessly to achieve? Beauty is in the heart and the way it shines through. In the poem “Missed Time” by, Ha Jin he states “My notebook has remained blank for months thanks to the light you shower around me.” the author is in love, a love that is so consuming that he only feels joy, positivity, pure and utter happiness. Like Jin says in the text, “Nothing is better than to live a storyless life that needs no writing for meaning.” Love gives his life meaning, and that, I believe is what beauty is all about, the way it takes affect on your heart for better, or for worse, but it always is the best thing to happen to you.

It is because I am a photographer, makeup artist and a lover, beauty can come in many forms from the way it makes you feel, capturing the perfect moment, or metaphorically painting art above your eyelids. I have finally came to the conclusion is that – the way it truly makes you feel – trumps all other scenarios of beauty. You could be staring at a perfectly hand-crafted painting and wonder what does it mean to you?

It was the first time I met him, it wasn’t his looks, but his personality overall. The way he made me feel as we drove through hills with the windows rolled down, music blasting and the way he would excite me. It felt like it was just the two of us in the world. Then when he first kissed me it felt electrifying, like every cell in my body felt alive. But it wasn’t the adrenaline that I loved about that moment, it was the moments spent with only him. It was the little moments when he would look at me with respect and admiration, the true ecstasy of falling in love. Have you ever been in a situation where everyone will listen to what they say about you instead of actually getting the truth from you? You would’ve thought that the judgement would never stop, but that one person who chooses to believe you than all the lies, that’s when you know, he’s a keeper. This is why I truly believe that moments are it’s more important who you’re with than what you’re doing. You can have the perfect moment with anyone in the world but to spend it with the one who brings your heart pure happiness and joy, I think life is more meaningful, and beautiful that way.
